Though I haven't posted in six months I have had some amazing hands on fashion experience during this time. I also took the break because I started to feel confused about what to post on this blog. I didn't feel like my content was very novel or focused in one particular direction. There are so many fashion bloggers I admire but I want my blog to be truly my own ideas. Here are some things I've accomplished recently that I feel good about:
I applied for graduation - I graduate this December with my B.A. in Fashion Merchandising!
I worked at Victoria's Secret for 3 months last fall to learn about retail. It was a requirement for a fashion course I took last semester and I learned so much about visual merchandising and selling.
I began a fashion design internship this January in Downtown L.A. I have learned so much these last three months! I've enjoyed presenting my boss with trend forecasts, learning how to measure a garment for shrinkage, learning about technical packages, etc. The company makes all their clothing in the U.S.A so it's also been a great experience getting to learn about that process.
I put together a professional portfolio of my work for interviews
I'm half way through some really cool courses in school including Trend Forecasting, Global Sourcing in the Fashion industry, Fashion Promotion and Advanced Textile Science.
I don't know about you, but it's so much easier for me to look at all I haven't accomplished in any period of time, so for me making "progress" lists like this is essential.
Sweater: Cotton On / Necklace: gift / Cami: Styles for Less / Skirt: Thrifted / Shoes: Naturalizer (from T.J. Maxx)
Thank you to my friend Kerri for snapping my pic at lunch today! I thrift shopped last night and found this adorable skirt and couldn't resist posting it. Kerri and I caught up and had lunch and it was lovely :).
Being a full time student, it is so easy to fall into a style rut. Lately jeans and T-shirts seem to be beckoning me so I decided to rev up my campus style by polyvoring (is that a word?) campus outfits to keep me inspired!
Today was my last day of work at my job in the financial industry. I've been at this firm for 8 and a half years and it's been full of hard work and good times. I am so excited to start working in the world of fashion now! My goodbyes here are bittersweet though because I've made such a wonderful friendship with Kerri, whom I've talked about a lot on this blog. She and I have been coworkers and friends for 6 years now, and she has taken my blog photos for me for a few years. Before I had this blog, she and I started our first style blog together in 2010 where we both posted outfit photos and had a blast doing it! I don't think we had one photo session that didn't end up in giggles. She has been a great friend and of course we will still keep in touch, but it won't be the same not seeing her smiling face every day. I will keep taking outfit photos (most likely in my back yard, with my less impressive camera) and will continue to share about the new adventures I embark on ahead!
Tank top: T.J. Maxx / Sweater: Francesca's Collections (borrowed from Kerri)/ Jeans: American Eagle (thrifted) / Sandals: Guess
For some reason I never wear yellow. Lately I've been obsessed with the color and have been searching for new yellow pieces to add to my wardrobe. I borrowed this sweater from my friend Kerri today right before she took these photos because I thought it would be a perfect addition to my outfit :) (thanks Kerri!). I'm hoping to find more yellow items to wear soon!
